Ocean Harbor 204 - Monterey

 2 Bedroom Oceanfront Condo

This beachfront unit has unobstructed, panoramic views of the ocean, harbor and twinkling city lights from every window and is within earshot of the soothing surf. Just steps from the sand, it is ideal for watching passing whales, dolphins, otters, and sea birds (binoculars provided for your viewing pleasure). The great room features an electric fireplace, dining table and breakfast bar. The dining table (seats six with built-in leaf), overlooks the ocean for romantic or casual dining - or you can dine al fresco on the oceanview front deck. The kitchen is fully-equipped, and central electric heat keeps the unit comfy and cozy, no matter the season. The living room features a large TV, DVD player, and Bose Wave Radio/CD player. Cable TVs with DVD players are provided in each of the two bedrooms. There is a king bed in the master, which features a tub-sized walk-in stall shower with seating. Twin beds in the second guestroom are easily converted to a King (a conversion kit and all linens are provided). The hall bath is directly across from the second bedroom, with a shower over tub combination. Ocean Harbor House is a gated community with two swimming pools, two spas, his and hers saunas, and a fitness room. This unit is connected by a breezeway to all the amentities in the complex. Ocean Harbor House is a 30-minute walk on the beach to Fisherman’s Wharf, and a short stroll from there to Cannery Row and the famed Monterey Bay Aquarium. (Driving time to these attractions is approximately five to ten minutes, and it's a 10 minute walk to the Naval Postgraduate School.) Connected to the Victorian treasure and butterfly mecca of Pacific Grove by the coastal recreation trail, it offers bikers, runners, and walkers unlimited opportunities. Carmel, with its wonderful art galleries and fabulous beaches, is just a bit further south. Golfers can tee off at the Del Monte Golf Course, about two miles away, while Pebble Beach – a golfer’s paradise – is just a few miles to the south. less ↑

late fall experience

it's a great condo with perfect views and heat. it's also really, really steep to get into/out of w/4+ steep flights of stairs from the parking lot. if you're older (we're 67 yrs) it's a challenge because for a 30d rental supplies are required.

Ocean Harbor 204

204 was a very nice apartment, pleasantly furnished throughout with a fun fireplace and some enviable artworks. TV and wi-fi gave no trouble. The kitchen was well appointed and the dining area gave a good view of the sea. There was an assigned parking place for our hired car. There were some pleasant domestic touches like a pair of binoculars for whale spotting and a supply of games to wile away the evening hours. The selling point of the place is of course its location so close - well, effectively on - the beach and from the main bedroom there is a really fine view of the bay curving away down to Monterey; particularly attractive at sunset and later when all the lights come out. The orientation of the apartment and the big windows meant that you were able to appreciate the views even when inside. In this apartment you are right on the sea - you can sometimes feel the breaking of a big wave as a slight vibration in the building's fabric and if you find the sound of the sea relaxing you will have no trouble sleeping here. Holiday-makers on the beach were far enough away not to be intrusive and fewer than in Monterey proper but if you like people-watching you will not be disappointed. And then, of course, there is the wild life - sea otters, sealions, dolphins and whales all went swimming past at one time or another and there were seabirds and buzzards in the sky. The views of the passing whales bettered some whale-watching cruises I have been on but to my mind the best shows were put on by the dolphins as they tended to hunt in groups and you can see them dashing about in the water throwing up waves as they go, sometimes coming right into the shallows. On one occasion I saw showers of sardines throwing themselves into the air to escape their underwater pursuers. If you are a keen cameraman you will undoubtedly go home with some fine photographs. Downsides. The whole of the site suffers from delicate plumbing which has to be treated with respect but it never really bothered us and the one time we requested a plumber he came promptly and at no charge. For an apartment which has such great views the windows on arrival were rather streaked and dirty and if you stay for any length of time you will have to get used to cleaning them as the salt spray builds up quite quickly but for these views you will not begrudge the effort. We stayed a month more or less which is plenty of time for any real problems to manifest themselves and we had no complaints; should we revisit the area we would undoubtedly try Ocean Harbour 204 again. less

Beautiful beach views and access

We stayed in #204 for a month. The dining table and porch look out at Del Monte beach, where I frequently saw sea otters, seals, seal lions and dolphins. From the bedrooms are views of Monterey Bay and entire beach. The unit is quiet, spacious, and has all the household stuff you need (including binoculars), plus a garage space to store bikes and a parking space. Ideal location for walking to Naval Postgraduate School. Fishermans Wharf and Downtown Monterey are not far, and we only had a car part of the time. There is a free shuttle from the wharf that goes to the Aquarium. We also rode bikes to the Aquarium along the Recreation Trail, which is at the entrance to the neighborhood. The unit has UVerse high speed internet which was fast enough to stream Netflix or telecommute into my office. We did not use the heated pool or spa but saw other families using it. A very nice place to stay. less
